Forestry Practice

Thanks for your interest in the Forestry contest!!

 There will be no official practice days because Mrs. Barefoot is not here. Please pick up a kit from the sub.

o If you want to get with other team members to practice, set up a time and place. If you plan to meet at school, contact Ms. Downing for permission.

 The county contest is October 11 at 8am at Lake Kissimmee. We can have two teams of four go to this contest. Please email Mrs. Barefoot at jenna.barefoot@polk-fl.net if you’re interested in participating so you can be properly registered.

 Since the contest is during school, you will be getting a pre-excused absence form for teachers to sign. You will be listed as “SB” which stands for “School Business” (it will not count against you). Turn in the pre-excused form to the sub before the day of the contest.

 You must have your FFA dues paid and field trip form complete to participate.

 You must have outside official dress to compete in the contest. Email Mrs. Barefoot if you don’t have it! Bring your FFA T-shirt to change in to after check in.

 You must have a parent able to take you to the contest. Students cannot drive themselves. Each student must have a letter saying it’s okay to ride with another parent.

Creed Practice

 The county contest is October 30 at 4pm at Bartow High School. We can have two students go to this contest. Please email Mrs. Barefoot at jenna.barefoot@polk-fl.net if you’re interested in participating in the county contest. One competitor representing Tenoroc FFA will participate in the Sub-Districts contest in December. More information about the Sub-Districts contest will come later.

 You must have your FFA dues paid and field trip form complete to participate.

 You must have official dress to compete in the contest. Email Mrs. Barefoot if you don’t have it!

 You must have a parent able to take you to the county contest. Each student must have a letter saying it’s okay to ride with another parent.

OCC Practice Schedule!

  • Wednesday, August 29 After Officer Meeting- 2:45pm Practice
  • Wednesday, September 5 2-2:45pm Practice
  • Tuesday, September 11 After Officer Meeting- 2:45pm Practice

  • Monday, September 24 4pm Contest at Kathleen High School!

 Practices will be in front of the cafeteria.

 Please have a ride available to pick you up promptly at 2:45pm.

 Only the 6 constitutional officers and student advisor will participate in the contest. However, the other officers should practice in case someone is sick.

Fundraisers:

  • Chili’s Give Back Night– Auburndale location, September 18th, 6-9pm
  • Car Wash– Auburndale A&W, September 22, 10am-1pm

Conferences & Conventions:

  • FFA members participated in many conferences & conventions over the summer including the Washington Leadership Conference, State Convention, Forestry Camp, and the Officer Retreat.
  • Two members will attend the Chapter President’s Conference September 8-9,
  • The officer team will attend the Chapter Officer Leadership Training October 3.
  • National Convention is October 21-28. Information can be found in the Ag room.

SAEs:

  • Entry deadlines are fast approaching for the Youth Fair & State Fair. See their websites for more information.

CDEs:

  • Sign up for CDEs today in the Ag room.
  • Congrats to those who participated in Ag Issues, Vet Assisting, & Extemporaneous Public Speaking!
  • Practices are scheduled for OCC. If you plan to participate in Forestry or County Creed, you must begin practicing on your own, as contests are in October.
  • Good Luck to OCC, Forestry, & County Creed. They will be competing soon!

Officer Highlight– Josie Chandler, Sentinel

Josie is from Polk City and is our current FFA Sentinel. Last year, she served as Chaplain. Josie is vital to the Ag program at Tenoroc.

Career Development Events are something in which Josie is quite diverse. She has participated in Dairy Judging, Quiz Bowl, Forestry, Par-Pro, Livestock Evaluation, Vet Assisting, and the County Greenhand Contest.

Josie is very proud of her Supervised Agricultural Experience where she raises purebred and crossbred beef, market hogs, and rabbits. She even completed a proficiency application and star greenhand application on her SAE last year.

Josie has attended many conferences and conventions including the Livestock Judging Clinic, State and National Conventions, and the Officer Retreat.

Josie received her greenhand degree last year and is one of our star members. Good Job!

Chili’s Give Back Night

  • What- for everyone who eats at the Auburndale Chili’s that night, 10% of their bill will go to our chapter- if they present the coupon/flyer. Mrs. Barefootwill email the coupon as soon as it is available.

Showing a Market Hog

Through FFA, you can show a hog at the Polk County Youth Fair or the Florida State Fair. It’s really fun and a great way to make some money too! You can purchase hogs from anywhere, but there are final weight requirements to consider. If you would like more information, please see Mrs. Barefoot or visit the following websites: Polk County Youth Fair- http://www.pcyf.net/ or Florida State Fair- http://www.floridastatefairag.com/. Mrs. Barefoot has a list of places that sell hogs, if you need some contacts.

FFA Alumni Scholarship

The Tenoroc FFA Alumni is pleased to offer one $1000 scholarship each year to a deserving FFA senior. An additional $500 scholarship may also be awarded. Scholarship monies are awarded over two semesters. Potential part and full time college or technical college students are able to apply. See Mrs. Barefoot today for an application!

National Convention

The National FFA Convention is in Indianapolis, Indiana this year. If you want to attend, along with about 50,000 other FFA members, you can go with Polk County FFA. They will leave October 21 and return October 28. They have many stops along the way, including the ABAC, Berry College, a Nashville Music Show, an Amish Community, and the National FFA Center. If you’re interested, you have to reserve your spot as soon as possible. Seats are first-come, first-served.

The cost is $510 and at least a $100 deposit is necessary to reserve your spot. All money must be paid by October 1st. There’s an information sheet and specifics on how to pay, so see Mrs. Barefoot today!

Join us for the first FFA meeting of the year! You need not be a member to attend; if you want to learn more about FFA, please come. After a brief meeting, we’ll have an activity. Please have a ride ready to pick you up promptly at 2:45pm. The meeting is Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 2pm-2:45pm in front of the Cafeteria
